One of the ancient Cinque Ports its history evocatively depicted in a local ‘Sound and Light Show’ Rye also boasts a wealth of interesting shops and antique emporiums galleries restaurants and historic inns. Close by is the nature reserve at Rye Harbour – also an excellent spot for fishing and sailing – whilst a little further afield lie Battle Abbey romantic Bodiam Castle Great Dixter and Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens. Day trips by rail to France depart from Ashford 20 miles. Shops and pubs 400 yards.
